Do you hunt twice a day?
Not usually — only if the morning calls for it. If we get close to limits in the morning, we're done for the day; if it's slow, we head back out around 2–3 pm.
Can I request ducks one morning and geese the next?
We don't promise specific species on specific days months out. Weather decides the hunt, and we put you where the birds are — we'd rather under-promise and over-deliver.
Can I bring my own dog?
Yes, if you book the whole Lodge or the Duck Shack. For mixed groups we don't allow dogs, so no one dog ever affects another hunter's day.
What's included in the $2500 ?
Three days of guided hunting, full lodging, three meals a day, and bird cleaning. Everything is provided.
What waterfowl can you hunt in Kansas?
Central Kansas sits on the Central Flyway, and the birds we hunt are ducks and geese. Ducks are mostly mallards, along with gadwall, wigeon, teal and pintail. Geese are specklebellies (white-fronted), lesser Canadas, and snow geese. Current daily limits are six ducks, six lesser Canadas, two specklebellies, and fifty snow geese.
Limits are set by Kansas Wildlife and Parks each year, so check the current season before you travel.
When is the best time for waterfowl hunting in Kansas?
Our season runs early November through late January, and each stretch of it hunts differently.
November is peak specklebelly. December brings the big mallards and the first snow geese arriving in force. Late January is our best field duck hunting of the year, and the snows are here in numbers.
There is no bad month. There is a month that suits what you want to shoot, and we will tell you straight which one that is.
Why hunt waterfowl in Kansas?
Kansas sits in the middle of the Central Flyway, the migration corridor that runs from the Canadian prairies down to the Gulf. Birds moving south funnel through it, and central Kansas is where a lot of them stop — grain fields, shallow water, and enough of both to hold birds through the season rather than pushing them straight through.
We are twenty minutes outside Hutchinson, in the middle of that. Our season runs early November through late January, and we hunt ducks and geese over ground we scout every day.
If you are choosing a state for a waterfowl trip, Kansas gives you three goose species and strong duck hunting on the same trip, which is not true of everywhere on the flyway.
What should I expect on a guided hunt in Kansas?
Roll-out is between 4:30 and 5:30 in the morning, and we are usually back at the lodge around 11 or 12 for lunch. We hunt over our own spreads, on ground we scout daily. Most days we hunt once. If the morning is slow we head back out around two or three. The first night is a big dinner, and each evening we walk you through the next morning's plan. You bring your gun, your shells, and your licence — everything else is covered.
